This list brings to light some underrated bops made by queer artists or loved by queer audiences.

Featured on her debut release, PRODUCT, this track captures pure SOPHIE: unconventional but catchy, with feel-good energy radiating from its unique production and vocals. SOPHIE was an avant-garde pop pioneer, an icon ahead of time, who sadly passed away in an accident in 2021. Nevertheless, her discography is packed with hits that always sound fresh, and is growing in popularity online.

Likely the most popular on the list, this dance-pop masterclass came from the Pop Princess's eleventh studio album, Aphrodite (also underrated). Get Outta My Way struggled to take off at its initial release due to Kylie’s label being unsure whether to focus on physical sales or digital streams. Among Kylie’s vast discography full of pop classics and nostalgic tunes, this ethereal electropop track deserves more love.

Pearls is a soulful, ascendant tune that captures a mix of two dreamy feelings: strutting a runway and hosting an elegant luncheon. Jessie Ware knows how to make you want to dance, with all references to grandeur and pleasure drawn in. A lead single from her 2023 album, That! Feels Good!, Pearls is another one of Ware’s phenomenally polished takes on modern dance.

HEAT calls inspiration upon 90’s dance and Euro-house to create a banger perfect for hot summer days. Accompanied by one of the raunchiest music videos I’ve ever seen, essentially a queer version of Eric Prydz’s Call On Me video, HEAT is still classic Tove Lo, but is an ecstatically camp shot away from her hits on Queen of the Clouds.

Up-and-coming artist horsegiirL is not merely a fresh visual identity to the listener, but is already demonstrating her skill at drawing from hyperpop’s finest works. that’s my beach! is a sugary, colourful harmony that almost makes you wax poetic about early 2010’s EDM from the likes of Avicii and deadmau5. This song is fun and silly, but all the while a serious earworm contender!

The case of underscores is interesting, yet another talented, underrated queer artist, but is flowering through the cracks of internet subculture to mainstream with little more than just the music and the fans. Music is a radiant burst of sound, another hyper pop banger, one that craftily sings a love letter about music without sounding cliché.
